How Is Your Foundation!?

How Is Your Foundation!?

WHAT DOES YOUR FOUNDATION LOOK LIKE!?

No matter if it is walking, running, or just standing our feet are the workhorses that get us from point A to point B. They are the foundation that everything else is based on. We wear shoes that do not fit correctly or feel the most comfortable and think that at the end of the day, when our feet are tired and sore, that everything is normal but we rarely consider the beating they take from carrying us around. Our feet need to function correctly to enable our bodies to perform the way they need to.

HELPING US MOVE

Our feet are complex things. They consist of more than 100 muscle, tendons, and ligaments, and contain more than ¼ of our bodies bones, 52 in total!. It is important to pay attention to how they feel and how the function because a pain or loss of function in our feet can have a widespread effect on our lives.

PROBLEMS

The health of our feet is more than just the pain that you might be experiencing. Conditions such as plantar fasciitis, heel-spurs, stress fractures, and even low back pain can develop if we neglect the function of our feet. So what can be done to help alleviate symptoms and prevent further damage?

  • Wear comfortable shoes
    • Ensure that your shoes have good support especially in the arch and are not worn down. Wearing orthotics can also help ensure out feet are stabilized properly and reduce shock to our feet.
  • Stand or walk on softer surfaces
    • Softer surfaces (grass, dirt) as compared to harder surfaces (concrete, stone) enables the foot to move easier and puts less stress on the foot
  • Perform exercises and stretches
    • Keeping our feet moving and stretched can help prevent injuries. A great stretch is using a tennis ball to roll on. Check out our video on foundation here
  • Schedule an appointment to talk to us about your feet
    • We evaluate the bones, joints, and ligaments in the feet to ensure everything is moving properly and can help with stretches and exercises specific to your situation.

ARE YOUR FEET TO BLAME?

Similar to cracks in walls and windows and doors that do not open due to a settling foundation, our feet can be the cause of knee, hip, and back pain. Mention your feet at your next appointment and we will discuss with you what can be done to help your feet feel and function better.
